1983 Kuwahara Laserlite “NOS Grail”
This is my NOS (New Old Stock) Grail. Kuwahara’s Mid ’83 Laserlite still New in the Box for 39 years!
This is the most common Laserlite from the 80’s. It is the un-stamped (meaning the frame is not stamped with “K” or “Kuwahara”) version of the Tange Japan made oval top and Bottom tube racing machine. This is a #T3I model so its the production run of September, one month before they started stamped in mid October 1983.
Before I acquired it, it had been sitting in a shop, and then another collector’s storage for all these years. It’s in Mint Condition but it’s hard to tell because its dusty and the release powder from the tires, which is coming off, is a waxy substance which is all over the rims and other parts of the bike. I figured I won’t clean it for now.
HIGHLIGHT: I noticed it doesn’t have the “Laserlite” top tube decal which I have seen absent on many Kuwaharas that I’ve owned. Every other component is true to the Factory release. Cranks are “Sugino 400” stamped and not “Redline 400”. All the factory removed parts like Suntour Stem, XC-II pedals, Dia Compe brakes and silver cable, Elina Aero Turbo seat, etc are in a little box inside the big box. Oh… and did you notice the plastic chain guard?
And of course… it comes Factory with the Icing… the “Kuwahara” stamped IRC 80x Tires (Fat/Skinny Combo)!
